The Sustainable Concrete Research Group (SCRG) is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of concrete infrastructure by focusing on low-carbon and energy-efficient materials. These include alkali-activated binders, alternative supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), and high-performance fibre-reinforced cementitious composites (UHPC and ECC). We are also committed to assessing the behaviour of structural concrete elements in shear and studying design and assessment methods for strengthening concrete structures.
The research group is led by Dr. Teo Wee, an Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure, and Society (EGIS) at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) since August 2016. Prior to joining HWUM, Dr. Teo was a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. He holds a Ph.D. and a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering with First Class Honours from The Queen’s University of Belfast, UK. He is a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (MIEM), the Institute of Concrete Technology UK (MICT) and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology UK (MIMarEST). He is also a registered Professional Engineer (PE) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council UK.
