Training

To increase the impact of research, SCRG is actively engaging in knowledge exchange activities with external partners through continuing professional development and training. This process encourages the sharing of new knowledge and creates opportunities to explore new research avenues, benefiting both academic teaching and research.

JKR CREaTE

The JKR Centre of Excellence for Engineering & Technology (CREaTE), a division of the Public Works Department Malaysia (JKR), is dedicated to research and development, as well as implementing training, certification, and accreditation programs.

Since 2017, we have closely collaborated with CREaTE to develop courses aimed at enhancing their staff’s technical competency within the structural forensics competence program. Each year, we are invited to conduct the following courses at CREaTE.

  • Strengthening Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures using Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composites (FRP)
  • Seismic Evaluation and Retrofitting of RC Structures According to Eurocode 8: Part 3

The Institute of Concrete Technology (ICT) UK

We have been collaborating closely with the UK’s Institute of Concrete Technology (ICT) to bring their concrete technology qualifications to Malaysia. The Institute offers an industry-endorsed, four-stage qualification framework that is directly linked to its professional membership grades, including:

  • ICT Certificate in Concrete Technology & Construction: Stage 1 CONCRETE PRACTICE
  • ICT Certificate in Concrete Technology & Construction: Stage 2 GENERAL PRINCIPLES
  • ICT Certificate in Concrete Technology & Construction: Stage 3 PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
  • ICT Diploma in Concrete Technology & Construction: Stage 4

The ICT is internationally recognised as the professional development body for the concrete sector. It aims to promote concrete technology as a recognised engineering discipline and to enhance the professional status of concrete technologists globally. The Institute’s Diploma and MSc programs are widely accepted as the leading industry qualifications in concrete technology.

We have been offering Stage 1 since 2019 and are planning to introduce Stage 2 soon. For more information about the courses, please contact Dr. Teo Wee at t.wee@hw.ac.uk.
